Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted between January 2009 to September 2012 in five academic psychiatric hospitals in the United States. The study included 300 patients who were treated with quetiapine (Seroquel) or placebo for 5 weeks in an acute episode of major depressive disorder.
Results:Patients treated with quetiapine (n=70), placebo (n=70) and both groups were significantly better than patients treated with either group in the acute episode of major depressive disorder (p=0.001). Patients treated with quetiapine (n=70) were also significantly better than patients treated with placebo (n=70) in the acute episode of bipolar disorder (p=0.003).
Conclusion:Quetiapine showed superiority in the acute treatment of major depressive disorder in the acute episode of depressive disorder.
